Enjoy a drink or maybe a coffee in one of the two bars at The Galloway Arms Hotel
Stay in comfort. The Galloway Arms has two newly refurbished bars. One very, very old and one very, very new. We offer two very different experiences for our customers.
Our Public Bar was once known as the Galloway Tavern, however this was sold in 1970, we purchased this back in 2000, and opened this as Dumfries & Galloway’s newest bar in 2001.
The bar it replaces was for over 200 years called the OLD TOLL HOUSE so it was very easy to name the newly built bar THE NEW TOLL HOUSE. The new bar however is over 5 times bigger than the bar it replaced.
The new bar is a modern cafe bar in style. It has a transport theme and has memorabilia from the heyday of railways as well as 1960’s and 70’s air transport. It offers SKY sports through no less than 5 large screen televisions, a full range of beers and spirits, or even a cup of coffee.
The new EARLS ROOM LOUNGE was built in 2006, or should we say rebuilt in that year. About 100 years ago Randolph, Tenth Earl of Galloway decided to lathe and plaster the lovely old walls of this room and we have now exposed these again. Why cover the stone? Perhaps because his Great Grandfather was a Jacobite and left a message in the granite stones?
The lounge is a lovely and comfortable place to relax and is opened to our visitors from morning until we close. As you would expect with a historical Scottish hotel we feature a vast range of our national drink, malt whisky. Our lounge usually has 120+ examples from all the whisky regions whilst our public bar another 30 or so.
